Celebrate Autumn at Canyon Fest 2009
2009-09-28
Celebrate autumn and the holidays at Canyon Fest 2009, November 7 at the new Little River Canyon Center!

Adjacent to the Little River Canyon National Preserve and the “deepest canyon east of the Mississippi,” JSU’s Little River Canyon Center is the perfect place to view the changing leaves and even do a little Christmas shopping! Some of the region’s most gifted artisans will be on hand to demonstrate their talents and offer their work for sale.

Tap your foot to great music, sample scrumptious food, listen to master storytellers and witness educational nature programs. Go on a hike or introduce the kids to Smoky the Bear… there is something for everyone at Canyon Fest!

This kid-friendly, free event lasts from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It is an indoor and outdoor event, and is handicap accessible. Leashed pets are welcome.

Some of the events for kids include face painting, parachute play, music and a live snake show.

Educational exhibits about the public lands will be in place, courtesy of the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service and the Alabama State Parks. Shirley West of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will also host an exhibit, and Helena Uber-Wamble will provide Audubon environmental education.

Music will be provided by JaxPan Steel Drums, bluegrass string musician Matt Downer, Civil War musician Tony C. Thomas and Carl “Critter” Orand.
