Grey Drummers Induct Dr. Meehan as Honorary
2009-06-29
The JSU Grey Drummers, the percussion branch of the Grey Echelon Southerners alumni group, gathered on campus Thursday – Saturday June 18-20 for the group’s annual “Summer Gig” gathering, which brought together drumline alumni from 1956-2008 for drumming, food and fellowship.

On Friday June 19, the group inducted University President Dr. Bill Meehan with its first “official” honorary drummer designation. The ceremony took place at the Gamecock Center. Grey Echelon President Gene Inglis and Jack Cox, the Southerners drumline’s first section leader, made the presentation. As the first inductee, Dr. Meehan received his own JSU drumline jacket and a certificate inside a holder signed by all the members.

According to the Grey Drummers website (www.jsugreydrummers.com), Dr. Meehan was inducted “in recognition of his strong support of JSU’s music program and the Marching Southerners for over a decade. Dr. Meehan’s induction underscores the mutually supporting relationship of the University and the JSU music program that is so necessary for their continued growth and success.”
